The Tejas Fighter Plane
The Tejas Aircraft is “made in India” single-engine fourth-generation fighter jet developed by Aeronautical Development Agency and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. It is the smallest, lightweight, multi-role single-engine tactical fighter.
The then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave the name “Tejas” to this light combat aircraft. Yes, it is the lightest combat aircraft in the world with a very good weapon delivery.
The Tejas fighter jet has the capability of breaking the speed of the sound and can attain a maximum speed of 2204 km per hour. This jet can fly to an altitude of 15kms, nearly twice the height of Mt. Everest.
The engine that powers the HAL Tejas is the General Electric F 404 GE-20. The Tejas aircraft has 8 points to carry bombs and missiles and is equipped with sensors and tools of electronic warfare. Depending on what is loaded, the pilot can fire air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, anti-ship missiles, and switch to laser-guided conventional bombs. Most of its components are “Indian manufactured” while few critical components are imported.
Air Commodore KA Muthanna, Chief Test Pilot, HAL
According to Air Commodore and Chief Test Pilot K. A. Muthanna – In terms of short-range, the Tejas Fighter Jet is “Second to none!”
Even for long-range air combats like air-to-surface missiles, it is possible to integrate weapons into the aircraft seamlessly because we have the flight control and avionic software. Additionally, the fighter aircraft has the best “flight control management system.”
